What is Inbound?

Universiti Putra Malaysia’s study abroad and exchange programme is designed to encourage students from universities abroad to do short-term academic-related stints at UPM.

UPM is a multidisciplinary university that has 83-years of history, and located strategically within the Multimedia Super Corridor, which is only 10 minutes’ drive to Putrajaya and 30 minutes’ drive to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. As one of the largest universities in Malaysia, UPM is also a key-player in contributing to the growth of learned and skilled human capital in the nation. UPM presently has more than 26,000 students enrolled in its 78 bachelor, 7 diploma and 47 postgraduate programmes at the Masters and PhD levels (with more than 250 fields of studies). Except for the diploma programmes which are offered exclusively at UPM’s branch campus in Bintulu, Sarawak all other courses are offered at the main campus in Serdang, Selangor.

The exchange programs in UPM began in late 1990’s with only a few students participated in the program mainly to conduct their practical training and research in the field of science and technology such as Veterinary Medicine. Now, UPM has more than 180 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to foster student exchange programmes with universities from all over the world, and each year, hundreds of international students come to UPM from different parts of the world. 

BENEFITS OF INBOUND PROGRAMS

Continuing education abroad may be one of the beneficial opportunities for a student. By continuing their studies in foreign countries, students will benefit greatly from their understanding of the history, culture of the country themselves, they will also understand the education system, and will improve the language skills and learn new languages ​​through friendships with new friends , indirectly enhances communication capabilities. After you graduate you will have a good portfolio that can be offered while looking for a job.

PUTRA Experience (Mobility Programme) 

SHORT-TERM PROGRAMME

UPM also offers short term programme specially designed for international students. The programme is processed according to the suitability, objectives and requirements of the university. At present, we have received many groups in the program focusing on English and cultural studies, research attachments, and classes in the relevant faculties (eg: University of Soka, National Technical University of Kazakhstan, Hunan Women's University, Kunming University of Science & Technology , Sultan Qaboos University, Kazakhstan Agricultural University of Agriculture).

PARTiCULARS OF PARTICIPATION

Participating students are required to comply with the rules of the host university and the original university and if they fail to do so, they may result in the programme being executed by them immediately terminated.

SEMESTER IN UPM

UPM adopts a semester system, with two semesters for each academic session. Each semester consists of fourteen weeks of study and the student will be evaluated through continuous assessment including the final exam.
