Overview:
Bioinformatics is a new discipline that deals with the research, development, or application of computational tools and approaches for expanding the use of biological, medical, behavioral or health data, including those to acquire, store, organize, archive, analyze, or visualize such data. Much of the data and application in bioinformatics research relates to the discovery of the functional relationships between the composition of the genes within the context of the genome and the structure and function of the proteins encoded by these genes. Bioinformatics techniques promise to provide information that brings enormous power in areas ranging from disease diagnosis and treatment to evolution, agriculture, and environmental science. Meanwhile, the Knowledge Management System (KMS) is a system that managing the gathering, organizing, refining, analyzing, and disseminating of knowledge in all of its forms within an organization. The advanced KMS will need to address issues such as agent technology, encryption, pattern recognition, biologic models, replication, personalization, localization, collaborative filtering, natural language, object-oriented structures, and other methods of electronic information management. By using this concept of KMS, the mission of work of the community of practice (CoP) especially biologist would be managed knowledge properly, reducing time and cost consuming in terms of knowledge accessing, sharing and working collaboratively, as well as to increase quality and productivity. Therefore, this research is attempts to formulate these concepts of managing and applying of KMS in order to deliver the best tool and facilitation to the users, organizations as well as for the nation in term of bioinformatics system environment.
